Yom Kippur This Saturday, and Benjies Deli Has Your Favorites

While it’s customary to fast on Yom Kippur, we at Benjies Deli like to concentrate on the eating part—that is, the pre-fast meals and the post-fast meals. And we’ve got everything you need for those meals, whether you come in to Benjies to enjoy them, or we bring them to your door. We’ve been doing this since we opened in 1967, so we know a thing or two about traditional Jewish food!

Before the fast, we recommend our chicken soup with your choice of noodles, rice or kasha varnishkas, which comes in small or large sizes. Sharing with a special someone? We serve a “for two” meal that’s perfect for the Meal of Cessation (Seudat Mafseket), which usually calls for boiled chicken. But boiled chicken sounds boring, but not our Chicken in a Pot: half a chicken served in a tureen with matzoh balls, kreplach, noodles, rice and carrots, all swimming in delicious chicken broth. Hmmm, maybe you don’t want to share after all? If red meat strikes your fancy, we’ve also got Ribs in a Pot, which are deliciously tender short ribs in with the same goodies. And don’t miss our special “Mish Mosh, It’s a Meal!” soup, a bowl full of a matzoh ball, kreplach, rice, noodles, chicken and carrots all snug in our freshly made chicken stock. (more…)

Bring Mom to Benjies for Mother’s Day!

There’s no better place to bring Mom on Sunday than Benjies Deli. Whether it’s for a relaxed brunch or family dinner, Benjies Deli will serve up the food while you show Mom how much you care—whether it be your mother or the mother of your children.

For breakfast or brunch, there’s so much for Mom to choose from: omelettes, fried-egg sandwiches, chicken-fried steak and eggs are just a few of the selections off Benjies extensive menu. Bringing the family? Get the Bagel Brunch, served family style. Lox, whitefish and BBQ cod are served with scrambled eggs, coleslaw, potato salad, sliced tomatoes and onions, bagels, cream cheese and Greek olives. Won’t Mother be pleased with such an elaborate spread, especially when she didn’t even have to pick up a pan? (more…)

The Most Important Meal of the Day

Everyone loves breakfast, but there never seems to be enough hours in the weekday to accomplish everything—let alone sit down in the morning for a nice balanced meal of pancakes and OJ. And at the end of the week, it’s just so luxurious to savor that extra five minutes of sleeping in on Saturday mornings rather than run to the local drive-thru for a hotcakes fix.

Sound familiar?  Luckily, Benjies Deli down in Santa Ana serves up a mean breakfast and they have delicious breakfast specials all week until 11AM. Everyone loves a nice stack of pancakes, and Benjies extends their pancake serving time on the weekends—until 1 PM to be exact.  Much of the breakfast menu is served all day! After a long week of eating tasteless and fibrous cereal bars during endless freeway commutes, isn’t it time everyone indulge in a real breakfast at Benjies?

Take their delicious Deli Omelet for example—a heaping plate of three fresh eggs mixed with corned beef and Benjies’ famous pastrami, all cooked to fluffy perfection.  And as if that weren’t enough, their breakfast entrees also come accompanied with generous side portions, your choice from home fried potatoes to buttery toast. It’s a meal fit for a king (or queen), and definitely makes up for all the days you miserably had to bypass breakfast.

Not feeling like breakfast food?  Don’t worry. The New York-style delicatessen has an extensive menu that boasts items from to-die-for pastrami sandwiches to smoked fish platters, and will surely have something that will please anyone’s taste buds.  If you’re in Orange County and hankering for some good food, Benjies Deli will not disappoint! It’s also a great place to come after temple or church with family and friends. Benjies Deli opens their doors at 8AM, so come early and enjoy the food.
