It’s Time for Super Bowl Eats at Benjies Deli!

With a little less than a week left until the Super Bowl Sunday, you know Benjies Deli is gearing up and getting excited!  Last week’s games were absolutely unbelievable—49ers were so close to going to the Super Bowl, but those fumbles by Kyle Williams really set them back. It was a great run for the 49ers though, and a fantastic season. Can you imagine what a game that would have been, the 49ers versus the Ravens?! Anyway, we digress…

So they meet again, the New York Giants and the New England Patriots, face-to-face since that epic matchup in 2008 where the Giants upset the undefeated Pats. (more…)

‘Tis the Season for Benjies New York Deli

Our smoked fish tray is a popular one for parties, especially around the holidays!

There is so much going on in November and December—Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas—and Benjies Deli can help you with it all. What about the NFL and Monday Night Football? We’ve got it covered. We can’t help break the NBA standoff between players and owners, as that seems impossible even for them to sort out! We miss you, Lakers…

But back to celebrating the season, whether that be family holidays or sports! Thanksgiving is coming up, and many people have family in town for the whole weekend. Now, if you’ve spent hours (or even days) preparing a humongous turkey dinner for 25 people, the last thing you want to do for the rest of the weekend is cook. And, let’s be honest, there’s only so much turkey that a human can eat. Call Benjies! Make sure you call in an order for a selection from our hot dinners, served with potatoes, vegetables, salad,  rolls and butter. Choose from roast brisket of beef with potato pancakes, corned beef and cabbage, roast chicken, roast turkey with stuffing and gravy, meatloaf and gravy and Swiss steak. Make sure you call us BEFORE Thanksgiving though, as these orders usually need 72 hours advance notice. (more…)

Come watch the Angels play at Benjies Deli!

Come watch Major League Baseball with Benjies Deli! At our Bamboo Lounge, we have six wide-screen TVs hoisted up at all angles so you won’t have to miss a triple play or home run! Now that the interleague plays are done, we see that the National League ranking still remains the same—The Indians, Angels and Cardinals are coming up this week (despite having trouble earlier in the season during June).  Right now the Phillies are leading in the power rankings, followed closely by the Yankees and Red Sox. Our very own Angels sit high on that list too, at number eight out of 30.  Over on the American League side, Boston is currently taking the lead, although many other teams are surprisingly coming up and contending for the title. It’s too early to predict who will make it to the World Series, but it’s looking like an action-packed season so far.

Finals Playoffs at Benjies Deli!

What a season it has been for the NBA Playoffs! Even though our favorite team, the LA Lakers, has been out, Benjies Deli is still enjoying watching the finals as two of the best teams, the Heat and the Mavericks, go head to head for the title of championship. It’s been a spectacular series, with the Heat currently leading the scoreboard at 2-1, but the Mavericks still look like they’ve got a lot of game to give the Heat a run for their money. The Mavericks have fought back with great defense, limiting the almost-unstoppable LeBron James and slowing down even MVP Dwayne Wade. We think we’ve still got a couple more games of high competition and extraordinary team execution.

Come Watch Lakers in the Playoffs at Benjies Deli!

Go Lakers!

The 2011 NBA Basketball Playoffs are in high gear, and the Los Angeles Lakers have shifted into full throttle! Currently, the Lakers are leading 3-2 against the New Orleans Hornets.  Benjies Deli admits we were feeling a tad worried after a rather atrocious Game 1, where front man Pau Gasol, who normally averages 22.3 points per game, only scored a meager eight points and grabbed only six rebounds on the offensive.  The poor performance caused the Lakers, ranked number 2 team by the Western Conference, to lose to the seventh-seeded Hornets! Talk about an upset! Lakers made a comeback in Game 2, with Andrew Bynum, Ron Artest and Lamar Odom picking up on Gasol’s slack, though the Hornets remained competitive until the end and definitely gave the Lakers a run for their money.

Though the Lakers are off to a fumbling start, Benjies Deli still has faith in our favorite LA team! Come out to Benjies Deli tonight to support the Lakers and watch them defeat the Hornets and advance in the playoffs.  Enjoy a plate of our Kobe Beef Sliders and watch as Kobe Bryant beefs it up with the referees. Or, try out the Benjie Special, a hot pastrami sandwich and coleslaw with Russian dressing on rye, served with potato salad.  Longing for something even heartier?  Don’t forget about our famous corned beef and cabbage plate, the best Orange County has to offer!

If you are just feeling snacky, grab a drink at the Bamboo Lounge’s fully stocked bar. There are six large screen TVs and an abundance of space to seat all of your friends. Dunk into a tall glass of ice-cold draft beer, and score big with our corned beef, pastrami and Swiss cheese triple-decker sandwich as tall as Andrew Bynum. Feeling the team spirit?  Share a deli platter, like the cold cut buffet or the 16″ ring sandwich tray, with your friends. With our deli platters, no one has to worry about ordering, they can just grab a sandwich while they watch their favorite team—the Lakers.

If you want to enjoy the game in the comforts of your own home, Benjies Deli can still help out with your catering needs–All of our deli platters are available for home parties too! Make sure you call 48-72 hours ahead to order before your event. That way you can have Benjies Deli do all the work while you relax and take all the credit. Benjies Deli makes entertaining at home easy and delicious.  For catering inquiries and ordering, please call Benjies Deli at (714) 541-6263.

Watch the Masters Tournament at Benjies Deli!

Augusta National Golf Club, home and host of the Masters Tournament

The first week of April hails excitement for many golf fans across the nation, as the one of the biggest golf tournaments of the year, the Masters Tournament, finally kicks off.  The Masters Tournament, originally called the “Augusta National Invitation” tournament, began in 1934 as the brainchild of golf extraordinaire Bobby Jones.  After retiring from his golf career, Jones pursued a different dream—to build the ultimate golf course.  Jones found the perfect piece of land in Augusta, Georgia, and with the help of Clifford Roberts (who later became the chairman of the course), the two transformed the lot into what is known today as the legendary August National Golf Club.   Many deem the Augusta Course as the best golf course in the nation, and it continually ranks in Golf Digest’s Top 100 Golf Courses of America.  The August National Golf Club is the official golf course for the Masters Tournament, an event with as just as formidable of a reputation as the golf course itself.

This year will be the 75th Masters Tournament, scheduled from April 7-April 10 2011.  Watch as the golf world’s biggest names, from Hideki Matsuyama to Tiger Woods, compete for the coveted green jacket and the championship title.

Join Benjies Deli at our Bamboo Lounge, which boasts six wide-screen televisions so you and your friends won’t miss a single tee-off.  The Bamboo Bar is a fully stocked bar with ample seating for large groups, and even has a menu of tasty bar food that changes every week.  Or, if you are feigning for a full meal, like Benjies Deli‘s world famous pastrami sandwich or our matzo ball soup, you can order off Benjies Deli‘s full menu of classic deli selections.

Want to watch the Masters Tournament from the comfort of your own home? No problem! Benjies Deli also provides delicious catering for parties and gatherings.  From build-your-own sandwich platter options to fully catered beef brisket meals, Benjies Deli has got you covered for your next party.  Check out our deli platters and catering options here and call us at least 48 hours in advance at (714)541-6263 to place your order.

The Ultimate St. Patrick’s Day Dish: Corned Beef and Cabbage

Traditional corned beef and cabbage...delicious!

What’s the deal with corned beef and cabbage? Is there corn mashed in together with the beef?  And a head of cabbage used as garnish on the side? Or, are you only familiar with the over-salted version of the dish, forever consigned to tacky St. Patrick’s Day celebrations at rundown bars?  Well, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, this is a tribute to one of Benjies Deli’s signature dishes, corned beef and cabbage!

Corned beef has quite an extensive and secular history, but is most famous for its origin in Ireland. The name “corned beef” derives not from the vegetable but from the process of curing the meat using large pieces of rock-salt kernels, which are called “corns of salt”.   Up until the 19th century, the Irish were the main exporters of corned beef, finding the preserved and salted meat a necessity for the famine-stricken country.  There is great debate about whether or not corned beef and cabbage is authentically Irish or not, many arguing that the dish came about after the Irish immigrated to America.

Authentically Irish or not, you can’t deny the deliciousness of corned beef and cabbage! If you’ve ever had a bad experience with corned beef and cabbage (ahem, American bars!), come on by to Benjies Deli to dispel any fallacies you ever had of this tasty dish.  Yes, that’s right—the Jewish do it better! Also, Benjies Deli will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day for an entire week (Monday, March 14 to Sunday, March 20), even more reason for you to come in and enjoy a plate and a pint of green Budweiser!

And don’t worry if you are celebrating St. Patrick’s Day at home– Benjies Deli has got you covered for dinner! We offer deluxe catering, and can provide you and your friends with party-sized platters of our most popular dishes—including corned beef and cabbage.  Minimum party size is 6 people, and we need 24-72 hours advance notice. Call us today at (714) 541-6263 and place your order!

St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations At Benjies!

It’s March, and you know what that means—why, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, of course! We were just too impatient last month to hold our excitement in, but now the month of shamrocks, pots o’ gold, leprechauns (and Benjies Deli’s award-winning corned beef and pints of green Budweiser, too) is finally here.  The best part is that Benjies Deli won’t just be holding a one-day St. Patrick’s Day celebration—no sir, we will be having a week-long bash starting Monday, March 14 all the way through Sunday, March 20!

Why on earth are we celebrating St. Patrick’s Day for a week?  Well, why not?  Why not partake in Ireland’s most celebrated holiday, where we can honor the country’s most revered patron saint? Or, just as importantly, why limit our customers to just one day of celebration?  We would hate to see our customers have to wait in a jam-packed restaurant on March 17, so in order accommodate everyone, Benjies Deli will be holding the St. Patrick’s Day festivities for six days.

And, a bonus reason for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day is that the holiday is right before the first day of spring, and what better way to ring in the new season than with our famous pastrami and some matzo ball soup?

Come in during the week with your friends and take advantage of our big screens and full bar in the Bamboo Lounge. The Lakers are playing the Orlando Magic on Monday, March 14th, the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, March 18th, and the Portland Trailblazers on Sunday, March 20th—watch the Lakers win while celebrating the Irish holiday with some hot corned beef and cabbage and refreshing green Budweiser!
