Finals Playoffs at Benjies Deli!

What a season it has been for the NBA Playoffs! Even though our favorite team, the LA Lakers, has been out, Benjies Deli is still enjoying watching the finals as two of the best teams, the Heat and the Mavericks, go head to head for the title of championship. It’s been a spectacular series, with the Heat currently leading the scoreboard at 2-1, but the Mavericks still look like they’ve got a lot of game to give the Heat a run for their money. The Mavericks have fought back with great defense, limiting the almost-unstoppable LeBron James and slowing down even MVP Dwayne Wade. We think we’ve still got a couple more games of high competition and extraordinary team execution.

Come Watch the Playoffs at Benjies Deli!

Even though the Lakers are out of the playoffs, Benjies Deli still loves them and we want to thank them for the past three seasons of amazing plays and games.  They have had a great run, and they will always be our favorite team. Go Lakers!

The Lakers may be out, but that doesn’t mean that the playoffs aren’t still going on (even though we know the Lakers were definitely a main attraction of the playoffs for many basketball fans like ourselves!).  Come join Benjies Deli and catch the Heat versus the Celtics.  Will Rajon Rondo still make amazing plays even with a dislocated elbow? Shaquille O’Neal finally made his postseason appearance after suffering from a sprained calf, but will the injury hinder him? Of course, our eyes are on Miami’s Dwayne Wade and Lebron James!  And don’t forget about the Bulls versus the Hawks; the series is currently tied at 2-2, and Atlanta definitely has made quite a step up to keep Chicago’s star guard Derrick Rose from dominating.  Needless to say, the playoffs are heating up!

Come Watch Lakers in the Playoffs at Benjies Deli!

Go Lakers!

The 2011 NBA Basketball Playoffs are in high gear, and the Los Angeles Lakers have shifted into full throttle! Currently, the Lakers are leading 3-2 against the New Orleans Hornets.  Benjies Deli admits we were feeling a tad worried after a rather atrocious Game 1, where front man Pau Gasol, who normally averages 22.3 points per game, only scored a meager eight points and grabbed only six rebounds on the offensive.  The poor performance caused the Lakers, ranked number 2 team by the Western Conference, to lose to the seventh-seeded Hornets! Talk about an upset! Lakers made a comeback in Game 2, with Andrew Bynum, Ron Artest and Lamar Odom picking up on Gasol’s slack, though the Hornets remained competitive until the end and definitely gave the Lakers a run for their money.

Though the Lakers are off to a fumbling start, Benjies Deli still has faith in our favorite LA team! Come out to Benjies Deli tonight to support the Lakers and watch them defeat the Hornets and advance in the playoffs.  Enjoy a plate of our Kobe Beef Sliders and watch as Kobe Bryant beefs it up with the referees. Or, try out the Benjie Special, a hot pastrami sandwich and coleslaw with Russian dressing on rye, served with potato salad.  Longing for something even heartier?  Don’t forget about our famous corned beef and cabbage plate, the best Orange County has to offer!

If you are just feeling snacky, grab a drink at the Bamboo Lounge’s fully stocked bar. There are six large screen TVs and an abundance of space to seat all of your friends. Dunk into a tall glass of ice-cold draft beer, and score big with our corned beef, pastrami and Swiss cheese triple-decker sandwich as tall as Andrew Bynum. Feeling the team spirit?  Share a deli platter, like the cold cut buffet or the 16″ ring sandwich tray, with your friends. With our deli platters, no one has to worry about ordering, they can just grab a sandwich while they watch their favorite team—the Lakers.

If you want to enjoy the game in the comforts of your own home, Benjies Deli can still help out with your catering needs–All of our deli platters are available for home parties too! Make sure you call 48-72 hours ahead to order before your event. That way you can have Benjies Deli do all the work while you relax and take all the credit. Traditional Passover Seder Meal at Benjies Deli

March is always an eventful month for Benjies Deli, filled with collegiate basketball games and St. Patrick’s Day festivities. But now that the celebrations have subsided, we are gearing up for another big event: Passover. Passover will commence on Tuesday, April 19th, 2011 and will continue for seven days.  In true Jewish fashion, we will be doing our part for Passover by offering a traditional Seder meal.

The Seder is traditionally a ceremonial meal consumed on the first night of Passover.   The rituals and foods of the Seder all represent something symbolic; For example, the unleavened bread represents the urgency of the Israelites having to leave Egypt.  An entire process of reading passages, singing, and drinking goblets of wine usually accompanies the meal.

During April 18th-19th after 4 PM only, you can come in to Benjies Deli and enjoy a traditional Seder meal for only $14.95.  Or, if you prefer to have your traditional meal at home, you can call ahead to place a to-go order for only $15.95.

There are certain foods eaten during the ritual Seder family meal served on the first two nights of Passover. Although over time, family customs may have changed the items served at the Seder, the following foods usually appear on the Seder plate:

• Matzoh: Three unleavened matzohs are layered within napkins as a reminder of how quickly the Israelites were forced to flee Egypt, leaving no time for dough to rise. Two are eaten during the service, and one (the Aftkomen), is hidden during the ceremony to be later found as a prize.

• Maror: bitter herbs, usually horseradish or romaine lettuce, used to symbolize the bitterness of slavery.

• Charoses: a mixture of apples, wine, nuts and cinnamon, as a reminder of the mortar used in building by the Jews during their slavery

• Beitzah: a roasted egg, as a symbol of life and the continuation of existence.

• Karpas: a vegetable, usually celery or boiled potato, representing hope and redemption; served with a bowl of salted water to represent the tears shed.

• Zeroah: traditionally a piece of roasted lamb shankbone, symbolizing the paschal sacrificial offering

• Wine: four glasses of wine are drunk during the service to represent the four-fold promise of redemption. A special glass is left for Elijah the prophet.

To place your order for a Seder meal, please call Benjies Deli at (714) 541-6263.

St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations At Benjies!

It’s March, and you know what that means—why, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, of course! We were just too impatient last month to hold our excitement in, but now the month of shamrocks, pots o’ gold, leprechauns (and Benjies Deli’s award-winning corned beef and pints of green Budweiser, too) is finally here.  The best part is that Benjies Deli won’t just be holding a one-day St. Patrick’s Day celebration—no sir, we will be having a week-long bash starting Monday, March 14 all the way through Sunday, March 20!

Why on earth are we celebrating St. Patrick’s Day for a week?  Well, why not?  Why not partake in Ireland’s most celebrated holiday, where we can honor the country’s most revered patron saint? Or, just as importantly, why limit our customers to just one day of celebration?  We would hate to see our customers have to wait in a jam-packed restaurant on March 17, so in order accommodate everyone, Benjies Deli will be holding the St. Patrick’s Day festivities for six days.

And, a bonus reason for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day is that the holiday is right before the first day of spring, and what better way to ring in the new season than with our famous pastrami and some matzo ball soup?

Come in during the week with your friends and take advantage of our big screens and full bar in the Bamboo Lounge. The Lakers are playing the Orlando Magic on Monday, March 14th, the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, March 18th, and the Portland Trailblazers on Sunday, March 20th—watch the Lakers win while celebrating the Irish holiday with some hot corned beef and cabbage and refreshing green Budweiser!

NBA Kicks off on Tuesday–and we have questions!!

The Lakers' Andrew Bynum

No, not the usual pre-season questions like are the Lakers and the Celtics going to have another battle of the playoffs, or will the Clippers ever string enough wins together to get a sniff at the playoffs. Those are so yesterday! Instead, let’s reserve the Bamboo Lounge at Benjies, load up on corned beef, pastrami and Swiss cheese triple-decker sandwiches and beer to resolve bigger questions that demand answers.

For instance, will all the rubles in Russia make the Nets a winner? We know money can’t buy everything, but rubles? Maybe, just maybe the crazy Ruskie will pull it off—or maybe the Nets will end up playing in the NBA (National Bolshevik Association) in Siberia. They better load up on Benjies’ famous sweet and sour cabbage soup for those long cold nights! (more…)

It’s Labor Day Weekend!

Labor Day is upon us, and you know what that means: the official start of the football season is right around the corner. That’s right–they’ve been teasing us with pre-season games all month, but now it’s almost time for the real thing. And if you’re a transplant from another state and can’t always catch the big games for your teams, you’re in luck! Benjies Deli has the NFL Sunday Ticket Sports Package! Yes, we’ll have every game, especially the ones that aren’t on terrestrial television. So if you’re a Cheesehead or a Bears, Dolphins or Steelers fan, get over to Benjies and you’ll get to see your team play.

But, we get ahead of ourselves. This weekend is one of the best of the year: picnics, barbeques, pool parties and delicious, hearty, all-American food. But what if slaving over a hot barbeque all weekend doesn’t float your boat? What if you’d rather be resting on a raft in the pool? Don’t worry—call up Benjies Deli the day before to order up a few of their delicious platters. That way you won’t miss any of the sports action that is on the television all weekend. Get Hot Wings or Barbeque Meatballs by the dozen, or choose from one of our many sandwich trays. Want the sandwiches ready to eat? Try the Sandwich Platter or the 16″ Ring Sandwich. Want to give your guests the option of making their own? No problem: order the Cold Cut Buffet, the Brown Bag Buffet, the Smoked Fish Platter or the Lox Platter. (more…)
