Celebrate Memorial Day at Benjies Deli!

Here’s a fun fact: Americans love their beef—1.3 billion pounds of it are eaten every year, in fact! And the biggest beef-eating day of the year is fast approaching. Statistically, Americans consume more beef on Memorial Day than on any other day of the year!  Memorial Day, traditionally celebrated on the last Monday of May, commemorates all of the American soldiers who have served our country in the past and present. This Memorial Day, bypass the burgers and barbeque, and take your friends and family over to Benjies Deli and enjoy our New York style deli selections.

Get the Deli Feast (our specialty!), an unbelievable selection of all our deli favorites, which includes hot corned beef, pastrami, turkey, tongue, salami, and chopped liver.   Get your beef fix on with the rest of America, and order our world famous Reuben, a corned beef sandwich topped with Swiss cheese and sauerkraut grilled on rye bread, all served with a heaping side of creamy potato salad. Benjies Deli also has the best melts ever!  Grab a Patty Melt, a ½ lb fresh broiled hamburger patty smothered in caramelized onions and melted American cheese on grilled rye bread.  Top it off with a side of coleslaw and French fries, and you’ve got an unbeatable combination!

This Memorial Day, leave your grill at home and let us take care of all of the cooking!  With such an extensive menu, we have something that will satisfy anyone’s cravings. And if you want to keep the Memorial Day celebrations at home, don’t worry—Benjies Deli also does catering, too—all of our deli platters are available for home parties too! Make sure you call 48-72 hours ahead to order before your event. That way you can have Benjies Deli do all the work while you relax and take all the credit. Benjies Deli makes entertaining at home easy and delicious.  For catering inquiries and ordering, please call Benjies Deli at (714) 541-6263.

Watch the Masters Tournament at Benjies Deli!

Augusta National Golf Club, home and host of the Masters Tournament

The first week of April hails excitement for many golf fans across the nation, as the one of the biggest golf tournaments of the year, the Masters Tournament, finally kicks off.  The Masters Tournament, originally called the “Augusta National Invitation” tournament, began in 1934 as the brainchild of golf extraordinaire Bobby Jones.  After retiring from his golf career, Jones pursued a different dream—to build the ultimate golf course.  Jones found the perfect piece of land in Augusta, Georgia, and with the help of Clifford Roberts (who later became the chairman of the course), the two transformed the lot into what is known today as the legendary August National Golf Club.   Many deem the Augusta Course as the best golf course in the nation, and it continually ranks in Golf Digest’s Top 100 Golf Courses of America.  The August National Golf Club is the official golf course for the Masters Tournament, an event with as just as formidable of a reputation as the golf course itself.

This year will be the 75th Masters Tournament, scheduled from April 7-April 10 2011.  Watch as the golf world’s biggest names, from Hideki Matsuyama to Tiger Woods, compete for the coveted green jacket and the championship title.

Join Benjies Deli at our Bamboo Lounge, which boasts six wide-screen televisions so you and your friends won’t miss a single tee-off.  The Bamboo Bar is a fully stocked bar with ample seating for large groups, and even has a menu of tasty bar food that changes every week.  Or, if you are feigning for a full meal, like Benjies Deli‘s world famous pastrami sandwich or our matzo ball soup, you can order off Benjies Deli‘s full menu of classic deli selections.

Let’s Talk Turkey–Turkey Pastrami, That Is!

Turkey pastrami!

Let’s face it—everyone loves a pastrami sandwich. Yes, even vegetarians and vegans, who seem to have a Reuben or a “pastrami” sandwich on every restaurant menu!

And why not? Pastrami has a delicious, savory flavor profile that makes it perfect for sandwiches. And you know how skyscraper-high Benjies Deli packs their sandwiches. But what about those who aren’t vegetarian, but can’t handle beef? What about those who are watching their weight, and need a leaner meat than beef in their sandwich, but don’t want to sacrifice taste? (more…)

Benjies and the Jets

The NFL Playoffs are here!

Well, after yesterday’s games, we’re narrowing down the teams that will grace the field in Arlington, TX in two weeks time. Many of our “bird” teams have flown the Superbowl coop, including the Seahawks, the Ravens and the Falcons. And seeing as how our nation’s bird is the eagle, perhaps there’s a link there with the Patriot’s loss.

So next weekend we’ll see how the New York Jets do against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Green Bay Packers will battle the Chicago Bears for the honor of going to football’s ultimate showdown. Sounds like there will be time spent in front of the television, and we know what that means. Snacks. Oh yeah, lots of snacks. (more…)

SuperBowl Approaches!!

February 6th marks a very special annual event in the male (and many female!) calendar. Cue dramatic music….yes, it’s the Superbowl!

This year marks Superbowl 45 and, although we don’t know who exactly will be playing, we do know that the Dallas Cowboys will be hosting. Hosting, I said, not playing on the field. Maybe next year, Cowboys! (more…)

More Than Just Matzoh Ball Soup!

The rain has arrived again, and nothing’s better for a rainy day than a bowl of warming, filling soup. And at Benjies Deli, all of our soup is made from scratch and made fresh daily! And best of all, every soup is served with our fresh rye bread and butter.

Now you might think that Benjies only makes matzo ball soup, but we don’t stop there. Our matzo ball soup is definitely a favorite with our regulars, don’t get us wrong, but we make 10 different kinds of soup for our customers. What can we say? We love soup!

So let’s start with the matzo ball soup—fluffy, delicious matzo balls swimming in our home-made chicken broth with chicken pieces and carrots. Not hearty enough for you? Try out Mish Mosh…It’s a Meal! soup, which has a matzo ball, kreplach, rice and noodles added to that hand-crafted chicken broth, chicken pieces and carrots. (more…)

If you didn’t get the Orange County Register on Tuesday, you will have missed Benjies Deli reviewed by their resident “Food Frenzy” columnist Claudia Koerner. Well, don’t worry; as with everything nowadays, it’s online too! Click here to read the full article about Claudia’s Reuben sandwich and brisket sandwich lunch.

Haute Living Names Benjies Deli as One of the Best Delis in Orange County!

We love accolades!

Haute Living’s online magazine has picked out Benjies Deli as one of their top five delis in Orange County. And if you have to ask what type of magazine Haute Living is, you’re definitely not their target audience.

This is no weekly rag, or flimsy magazine filled with paparazzi snaps of celebrities out shopping. Oh no. Haute Living magazine regularly features such magnates as Steve Wynn, Sumner Redstone and Michael Douglas on the cover. To put it point blank: their readership isn’t “slumming it” by any means.

And that’s why we’re so pleased that they chose our humble New York deli. We’ve been nestled in Santa Ana since 1967, and have remained relatively unchanged—our service, our recipes and even our bread slicer are still hard at work bringing our clients young and old the same great flavors, day after day.

And although we’re among good company in the top 5 list, we are the only New York-style deli in the roster, which means you can get all the East Coast favorites here, from Reubens to latkes to matzoh ball soup. Plus, they even mention we have a full bar—although they forgot to give our fantastic catering a plug.

But we’ll forgive them! After all, as the author Christopher Luu points out: “There’s nothing they can’t tackle if the most discerning New Yorkers frequent this deli.”
